Bordeaux win the Coupe de France in thrilling final

Congratulations to Girondins de Bordeaux on their Coupe de France victory last night. Relive last night’s final by reading through our coverage that was broadcast on twitter last night.

PRE-GAME

Bonsoir a tous, this is @Philby1976 here for Evian v Bordeaux in the #CdF final – #magiedelacoupe people! First, the teams.

Evian : Laquait – Dja Djédjé, Cambon, Betao, Wass – Ninkovic, Rabiu, Sorlin, Bérigaud – Sagbo Khlifa

Bordeaux: Carrasso – Mariano, Sané, Henrique, Trémoulinas – Plasil Sertic – Saivet, Obraniak, Maurice-Belay – Diabaté

KICK-OFF

And we’re off! Fredy Fautrel on the whistle. Careful everyone.

2nd minute: First shot in anger ™ Diabate from the right, Laquait takes comfortably.

4th minute: If you have pictures, the Evian fans are *really* going with the pink theme. Superb display. Freekick Bordeaux….

5th minute…what a save! Laquait dives to tip a Diabate header round – corner…cleared out. Evian weather the first storm.

6th minute: Diabate put through and clear but as Laquait comes out to cut the angle, Dja Djedje races back to stop him – great defending.

9th minute: Plasil absolutely cleaned out by Cambon, who should really get a yellow at least, but M. Fautrel contents himseld with a stern word.

10th minute: Bordeaux freekick, Betao this time to head away. Evian under pressure, but soaking it up for now.

13th minute: Dje Djedje with another important stop on the line, gets it out for a throw-in – Sertic shot well over. Has another go, wide.

14th minute: Sagbo has a run for Evian, finds Khlifa on the wing, but Sane gets his cross away – and Diabate goes close with another header.

17th minute: After another Bordeaux attack, Dja Djedje with another cool piece of defending, to frustrate Obraniak and win the throw.

19th minute: Bordeaux corner…Sertic to take…Laquait takes at the second attempt. Bordeaux are looking very up for this but Evian are not giving in.

20 minutes: First booking – Mariano for going in late on…I missed it. Freekick for Evian on the left. Berigaud up – Betao header! Wide!

20 minutes to go in first half and 0-0 at HT is 5/2 on already. Bordeaux with two chances in two minutes.

29 minutes: Evian force a corner off Henrique – cleared out by Sane. Sorlin booked for taking down Maurice-Belay

33rd minute: Dje Djedje with another bit of defensive nous, putting the ball out of Maurice-Belay’s head. Evian throw.

34th minute: Contentious challenge waved on by M. Fautrel – whistles from the stands. Sagbo the man down. Not hurt. Drop ball.

36th minute: Less than elegant clearance from Evian as Bordeaux attack again – wrestling in the box, Dja Djedje clashes with Saivet. Getting a bit bitty.

39 minutes: DIABATE GOAL!!!!!!

That was a massive defensive rick – and almost an embarrassing screw up by the striker. He was through, dithered, Laquait fell over, man on the line couldn’t stop it. Decent finish (eventually) and that had been coming. Bordeaux 1 – 0 Evian. 5mins to HT.

44th minute: So – on the FFW First Scorer Competition – Khlifa 5 votes; Obraniak 3, Plasil, Mariano, Ninkovic, Brandao, Gillot 1…no Diabate. Oups.

45th minute: Saivet very nearly makes it a second – Laquait reacts well. Bordeaux with a freekick, last minute before HT…scrambled out. One minute extra –  multiple Bordeaux players rolling on the floor. Whistle blows anyway. Bordeaux 1 – 0 Evian.

HALF-TIME: Several people speaking out for Diabate composure on the goal, and having seen a replay – yup, that was cool. Worryingly, he’s now limping. (TV reporter shows composure to cut out Cambon from the crowd for an interview – like a top-ranked sheepdog)

Bordeaux come out last, they are ahead 1-0 – but Evian aren’t done yet. Can they equalise?Restart!

47th minute: PENALTY BORDEAUX!!!!! Ninkovic shirt-pull – on a player who looked offside, but it’s been given, Diabatae steps up – SAVED!!!!!!

48th minute: Corner – not over yet! Diabate header wide. Great stop from Laquait, that was heading right for the corner…

49th minute: Carrasso called into action for the first time in a while – comfortable. Evian look buoyed by the penalty save. Sparky.

50th minute: EGALISATION!!!!!!!!! Sagbo side-foots home after a cross from Berigaud !It is level, and jumping, after 50 minutes – Bordeaux 1 – 1 Evian.

53rd minute: SAIVET GOAL!!!!!!!! Bloody hell. Freekick, and he snuck forward of the pack and guided past Laquait. Bordeaux 2 – 1 Evian. Blimey.

56th minute: Double save from Laquait! My word. This match has just gone crazy.

58th minute: Cambon header off the line! Evian are in some trouble here…corner cleared out. Sertic shot wide. Goal kick. *and breathe*

59th minute: First sub – Ninkovic off, Barbosa on. Evian mean business.

60th minute: Khlifa goes on a foray up the left, Mariano just does enough to make it a goal kick. Half an hour to go.

61st minute: Freekick Evian, Beruigaud felled in the central area, he steps up, 30 m out…chip, header in, cleared by Sane.

67th minutes: Bordeaux sub – Plasil off, Biyogo-Poko on.

69th minute: Rabiu down with cramp. Ball put out. Bordeaux player helps out with the foot-flexy thing.

(Plasil looks like he plays acoustic guitar in his free time, and still has a record player. Like that)

70th minute: EGALISATION!!!!!!! DJA DJEDJE!!!! Barbosa made that! A great run up the left, dangerous cross, and the defender was there to knock it in. He’s been class tonight. 2-2.

75th minute: Evian freekick, looks close – but Carrasso didn’t have to get a hand to it. Last 15 minutes. Bordeaux 2 – 2 Evian.

78th minute: Ooh, Sagbo with a speculative shot from distance best described as…speculative.

80th minute: Ten minutes to go – 2-2. TV still running a phone-in. Evian scatter out another dangerous attack. Diabate heads over.

81st minute: Rabiu off, Tie Bi on for Evian.

84th minute: Ouf, Diabate span away from his marker but the ball had run to far and Laquait was out to get it. Five minutes. 2-2.

87th minute: Evian let it slip trying to defend on the hoof – ends with a corner after Biyogo-Poko causes Betao problems…Obraniak…

89th minute: …BUT DE DIABATE!!!!!! It looked like Evian had got that away, but not far enough – put back in, Diabate got ahead of the last man, and finished coolly. Ball in was from Maurice-Belay, finish was all Diabate. Sagbo off, Angoula on for Evian.

91st minute: Injury time now – three minutes too play. Bordeaux 3 – 2 Evian.

92nd minute: Bordeaux nearly make it four as Evian risk it, but the shot is over-enthusiastic and well wide.

Angoula triews to push forward, but is dispossessed – 30 seconds to go…

That’s it! FT: Bordeaux 3 – 2 Evian.

Bordeaux dominated, but Evian frustrated them – Diabate got a double, but missed a (soft) penalty. Saivet with the other. Sagbo, and the excellent Dja Djedje with the Evian goals. That was good fun for the neutral – congratulations/commiserations to the fans.

Evian go up to receive their medals. They gave it their all. Laquait and DjaDjedje particularly impressive. Bordeaux get another crack at the Europa League. They attacked more, but had to fight to the finish after a cracking second half. Bordeaux players getting their medal, grinning broadly.

Dupraz – “I don’t want to rain on Bordeaux’s parade – simply, we were beaten by the better side.” He thanks France TV “for bringing us luck” – and Bordeaux raise the cup. There are tears both sides. Evian players mill around, gutted.

Gillot and his right-had-man raise the cup to big cheers. Also, Mariano’s kids are *so cute*….

Obraniak – “it’s a trophy, it’s Europe – we should enjoy tonight”

Traditional confetti-based celebrations – Evian players still on the field, paying tribute. And that’s it – Bordeaux 3 – 2 Evian. A hard-fought match, but les Girondins are in Europe again. Bonsoir a tous. @Philby1976 signing off.
