Balotelli joined Serie A side Genoa on a free in October after leaving Adana Demirspor in the summer following the end of his contract with the Turkish side. However, things didn’t go as well as the former Italy striker hoped, as he only played 56 minutes under Patrick Viera.
With Andrea Pinamonti, Jeff Ekhator and Vitinha favored to start in place of Balotelli, the former Manchester City striker could leave Genoa during the January transfer window. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mexican club Cruz Azul would be interested in signing the Italian striker.
Balotelli, the new improbable destination
Furthermore, according to Brazilian media RTI Esporte, negotiations between Balotelli and the Cruz Azul hierarchy are well advanced, all that remains is to finalize the striker’s salary. The Mexican team are keen to sign the former City striker as they are struggling in attack in Liga MX.
The winter transfer window is already open in Mexico and Cruz Azul is expected to make an official offer soon for Balotelli’s signature, as they look to bring the Italian into the squad before the start of the Liga MX Clausura.
