According to Dudley News, a statue of Bellingham has been unveiled in a window in Birmingham, and it’s made entirely of food. The piece was commissioned by retail chain Pret-A-Manger, after a national poll to discover the best British memory of 2024. As a result, the statue commemorates the Real Madrid ace’s last-minute bicycle ride against Slovakia to save England from elimination at Euro 2024.
The image of Bellingham in mid-flight is striking and is made all the more striking by the fact that it is made up of items from Pret’s Christmas menu, including mince pies and gingerbread. Bellingham’s goal came third in the poll, behind England reaching the final and Sir David Attenborough celebrating his 70th birthday as a conservationist.
A statue that makes noise
As a reminder, England were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the final of the European Championship, a result which pushed Gareth Southgate to resign. Next year, Thomas Tuchel will begin his reign with the Three Lions.
Bellingham’s Real Madrid face Getafe in La Liga this weekend, looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League in midweek.
