Italian football has been holding its breath since this Sunday afternoon. In the 16th minute of the match between Fiorentina and Inter, on behalf of the 14th day of Serie A, Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch. The Viola midfielder, 22, suffered a cardiac arrest but was able to regain consciousness, as reported by the Italian agency Ansa.

In the images of the match (not rebroadcast by TV), Bove struggled to get up and then collapsed right in front of his team’s sidelines. Two Nerazzurri players and substitutes from the Florentine team then alerted everyone in panic. His teammate Danilo Cataldi intervened and saved Bove from swallowing his tongue.

All the players then made a circle around Bove and the doctors who came to help, before the player was evacuated by ambulance. The meeting was quickly postponed. Inter, with Marcus Thuram but without Benjamin Pavard (injured), will return later in the season to Tuscany and are thus four points behind Napoli, a leader who won again against Torino during the day.

Born in the capital, Edoardo Bove was trained at Roma and is a promising prospect in Italian football. He has been an international U16, U18, U20 and has been playing for the Espoirs since 2022 (14 matches). Loaned this season to Fiorentina, the relay midfielder played 14 matches in all competitions for one goal and three assists before this terrible malaise.
