After a good result at home against Montpellier, Saint-Etienne once again sank away, crushed by Rennes at Roazhon Park with a clear score of 5-0 – a sixth setback in seven outings this season, for a small draw obtained in Nantes two months ago.

Steeped in good intentions, the Greens nevertheless attacked the game with guts, hitting wood with Cafaro (17e). A Saint-Etienne striker who after half an hour of play caused his team to fall. With a bad reflex, Cafaro in fact diverted with his hand a shot from James which seemed destined for the net. Verdict: red card and penalty, transformed by Kalimuendo (1-0, 39e).

From then on, Rennes was able to play the new football recommended by Sampaoli. Blas signed the break before the break (2-0, 45e+6). Then Gouiri finished off ASSE after returning from the locker room (3-0, 53e). Kalimuendo was then able to have fun and give even more substance to this beautiful Breton victory, (4-0, 61e), not without an additional penalty caused by Pétrot (5-0, 67e).

Stade Rennais took advantage of the opportunity to stop the bleeding after three defeats in a row in the league, temporarily regaining its distance from the red zone. This is a step ahead of the Greens who have already conceded 30 goals this season. Only the MHSC did worse with 32 banderillas conceded.
