Elye Wahi was treated to a spicy return to say the least at Stade Bollaert this Saturday. The one who wore the RC Lens jersey for a season before joining Olympique de Marseille, however, only came into play for a few minutes in added time. This was enough for the Lensois public, already disappointed by the defeat (1-3) of their team, to attack him when he entered the field, then after the final whistle.
Booed on his few ball catches and when he replaced Neal Maupay, Wahi was targeted by projectiles coming from the Lens kop. Leonardo Balerdi, the Marseille captain, quickly took it upon himself to extricate his attacker and redirect him towards the stand where the few thousand Marseille supporters who had come to support their team in Artois were located.
Hated in Lens and not yet integrated into Marseille…
Taken aback last season by Sang et Or fans, Elye Wahi did not leave a lasting memory, except for the money he brought in during his transfer to OM, around 25 million without bonuses. In Marseille, his integration is not optimal either, since he has already lost his place in the eleven to the benefit of the more combative and experienced Neal Maupay.
The former Montpellier player has scored twice for Marseille, including once from the penalty spot, but is currently struggling to justify the amount paid to recruit him.
