The Dutch international, second highest scorer in the history of his selection, knows how to get noticed. His arrival at his new club has not gone unnoticed.

On Monday, Memphis Depay signed with Corinthians, signing a two-year contract until December 2026. The Dutch international had been a free agent since leaving Atlético Madrid at the end of last season.

On Wednesday, the former Olympique Lyonnais player was welcomed like a real rock star on the pitch of the Brazilian club, where Corinthians president Augusto Melo was waiting for him. By arriving aboard a helicopter, the Moordrecht native made an impression. Dressed in a grey suit, the 30-year-old player was then presented to the supporters, who cheered him on.

Depay can still claim call-up to national team

By joining a league at a lower level than the European Top 5, Depay should not close the door to the national team. “The level of the championship in Brazil is different. So yes, Depay can still claim the national team but it will depend on his fitness and if he manages to reach his usual level.”warned coach Ronald Koeman.

The latter had previously indicated that he no longer wanted to call on Steven Bergwijn, who had left for Saudi Arabia. Since 2013, Depay has 98 caps with the Orange (46 goals scored). The second highest scorer in the history of his selection, he is only four goals away from Robin van Persie’s record (50).
