Chelsea captain Reece James claims to have spoken to Enzo Fernandez and his France team-mates following last week’s controversy.
Enzo was publicly labelled a racist by teammate Wesley Fofana after he slipped up during the Copa America celebrations in the Argentina dressing room. Through a song, he mocked the family background of the French players.
“Enzo Fernandez knows he did something wrong”
So James spoke up to assure us that everything was back to normal. “It’s obviously a very difficult situation,” he said. “I think Enzo quickly understood that he had done something wrong. He raised his hand and apologized to the club, the team and those who were offended.”
James therefore played the appeasement card. However, he was not very forthcoming about the content of the discussions that took place between his teammates. I’ve spoken with Enzo and everyone involved, but those conversations will remain between them. He hasn’t arrived yet, so I don’t know if there’s anything to fix. Hopefully we’re all on the same page and can move on.”
Enzo is set to join Chelsea’s US tour on July 29.
