A major European club has decided, against all odds, to part ways with its head coach.
Huge feeling coming from England. Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea by mutual consent after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
Former PSG coach Pochettino arrived last summer, signing a two-year deal with the Blues. A commitment he will not honor. “Poche” is ready to leave and his club is not holding him back.
Pochettino pays the price for a failed season
In recent weeks, uncertainty about his future had increased. Pochettino having made several comments in a press conference, including saying it was “not my team” after the 2-1 win over Brighton last week.
It was common knowledge that the club planned to take stock at the end of the season to look back on this campaign, where Chelsea finished sixth. The ranking could, however, have been worse, without the five successive victories signed at the end of the year.
Information from The Telegraph claims that the Argentinian met sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, as well as co-owner Behdad Eghbali, and that following this decision it was decided to part ways. Pochettino’s departure, which should earn him significant compensation, was amicable.
Chelsea have already started looking for their successor
Chelsea should immediately start looking for his successor. The Blues should aim for a young and progressive coach. Several names have already been mentioned in the press such as Kieran McKenna, Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart), Michel (Girona) and Enzo Maresca (Leicester City).
Pochettino (52) becomes the third manager to leave Chelsea since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took control of the club in May 2022, with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter both sacked last season.
