Raheem Sterling reportedly refused to join Saudi Arabia for the money because he wants to woo Chelsea fans.
After a poor performance in the 4-2 FA Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Sterling was booed by his own supporters. Since his £47.5million move from Manchester City in 2022, the England player has yet to convince fans of his qualities, but he is determined to try and persuade them. According to The Standard, Sterling is prepared to reject interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia this summer and remains focused on winning important trophies with Chelsea.
On Sunday, the Blues star apologized to Chelsea fans for his performance against Leicester: “I apologize for the missed penalty. I will come back 10 times stronger to help the team win and continue to fight for the badge every day.”
Sterling apologizes to fans
The former Manchester City winger's contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2027. He earns a salary of around £300,000 per week and Chelsea are likely to impose a high price on the winger if an offer is made this summer, which would make a departure difficult.
The 29-year-old's side will reunite with his old side, Manchester City, in the FA Cup semi-final and are likely to play Pep Guardiola's men on April 20. The winger will have two free weeks to train with Mauricio Pochettino's team, since he was not called up to the England squad.
