Great architect of Manchester City’s quintuple (Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup), Rodri had an exceptional 2023 on a collective level as well as on a personal level. The Spaniard finished 5th in the last Ballon d’Or, a very high position for a defensive midfielder. In an interview given to France FootballRodri thinks he can do even better.

“We all dream of it. That would be an incredible accomplishment. But I also know that legendary circles have not succeeded. I would love it if a defensive midfielder like me could win it, it would mean a lot. For the winner, but also for the young people who want to play this role and know that they can be recognized other than by necessarily being the player who scores or performs brilliant actions. For football, this would be an interesting signal. But I am already enjoying my ranking. Imagine, I can say that I am the fifth best player in the world” he told the French monthly.
