Real Madrid missed out on a memorable victory over Valencia on Saturday night by a second or two, following a huge scandal.
Real Madrid experienced an evening full of emotions at Mestalla on Saturday evening with, the icing on the cake, a huge scandal at the end of the match. Jude Bellingham scored with a header in the 99th minute, but referee Jesus Gil Manzano had already whistled the end of the match when the ball ended up in the back of the net.
The Whites were furious, especially Bellingham, who attacked referee Gil Manzano for his decision and his whistle while the ball was in the air and heading towards the back of the opponent’s net. The referee ended up giving the England midfielder a red card for this reaction, which baffled Carlo Ancelotti.
Aggressive Bellingham?
Real Madrid intend to appeal Bellingham’s red card, but for now he is expected to miss next weekend’s match against Celta Vigo. However, if the appeal is rejected, he could miss 2 or 3 matches, with Gil Manzano noting that the 20-year-old approached him “aggressively”, according to Marca.
Real Madrid could do with Bellingham not missing a game, which is why they are desperate to have their appeal accepted. The result will be known in the coming days.
