Robert Lewandowski reached 50 goals as a Barcelona player, in less time than Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho.

The prolific Polish striker scored twice for the Blaugrana in his last outing, which ended in a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo. Lewandowski secured all three points for Barca by converting a penalty in the 97th minute.

Lewandowski has thus reached a milestone in Catalonia, which places him in illustrious company. It only took 79 matches for the 35-year-old striker, who left Bayern Munich in 2022, to reach 50 goals.

Superb record for Lewandowski

Only two men have been quicker than Lewandowski to reach 50 goals for FC Barcelona. Samuel Eto’o and Luis Suarez, who were iconic number 9s at Camp Nou, reached their ‘half-century’ in 68 appearances. Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi needed 117 matches – after bursting onto the scene as a teenager – while Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho needed 108 matches.

Lewandowski, who relished the La Liga title in his first campaign with Barca, hopes there will be plenty more goals to score. However, questions arise about his future, with talk of a transfer to Saudi Arabia or MLS.
