Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello believes Los Blancos need Manchester City scoring machine Erling Haaland more than Kylian Mbappé.
Real Madrid continue to be linked with the PSG superstar, but the France international is yet to make a decision on his future. It has been reported that Real could be interested in Haaland if they fail to sign Mbappé, and that his former Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham is in contact with the City star. Capello claims the Frenchman is the more versatile player, but he explained why Haaland is more needed at Santiago Bernabéu.
“Mbappé above, but…”
The Italian told Marca: “Mbappé is not a center forward, he likes to play on the wing. Madrid already has Vinicius, but Mbappé is Mbappé! If Madrid want to sign, they need to ask themselves if they have a center forward now. And they don’t have any. They need it even more. But if you look at the technical quality, who is the better footballer, Mbappe is above Haaland. »
Real Madrid have been left without a star striker this season after bidding farewell to Karim Benzema. Former striker Joselu returned to the club on a season-long loan but has only scored five goals in La Liga since the start of the season. Los Blancos have the option to make the contract permanent, but they would undoubtedly prefer to bring in a big talent like Mbappé or Haaland to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window.
