FC Barcelona was smiling again yesterday. At least for a while. Mired in the Negreira affair which once again made the headlines in Spain this week, the Blaugrana club regained the leadership of La Liga after its success over Sevilla FC (1-0). He can thank a certain Sergio Ramos, the only scorer at the Montjuïc Olympic stadium… against his side. Obviously, the Spanish press, and especially the Catalan press, is delighting in this Saturday, him the former Madrilenian who likes to play around so much.

“Thank you Ramos” title Sport for example in today’s edition, while Mundo Deportivo there goes his “Gooooool from Sergio!”. Mockery is easy, especially since the goal is anything but voluntary. The defender got in the way of a header from young Lamine Yamal but, in his momentum, put the ball in his own net. There were only 15 minutes left to play, insufficient to allow the Andalusians to come back. “Ramos’ goal gives added value to the party that broke out in Montjuïc”concludes MD.

Spain is having a field day

The public particularly appreciated the outcome of this evening. Ramos was whistled and booed on every ball touched, he who played so many Clasicos between Real and Barça. After the goal, the supporters even shouted the defender’s name to thank him for this goal at the end of the match. “Ramos offers three golden points” feasts Sport which evokes an evening where we can calmly put “ice cubes in his whiskey”, just to savor a little more. Sleep must have been difficult to find for the former Parisian.

To top it off, the press unanimously recognizes that his performance is good. “The centre-back had a great match, but all his work was lost on an unfortunate actionbelieves for his part Marca. (…) Sergio Ramos makes Barça the leader of La Liga.” Social networks also had a field day, resuming an interview with the 37-year-old Spaniard the day before the match. He then declared: “It wouldn’t be bad to score my first goal against Barça.” He didn’t think he said it so well…
