There are always unfortunate injuries during international breaks and this one was no different.
Several players have been sidelined for months after picking up serious injuries with their national team.
The likes of Mario Goetze, Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Morata, Karim Benzema, Bastien Schwinsteiger, Paul Pogba, David Silva, Kevin Trapp, David Luiz are all injured and are set to be sidelined for several weeks now.
David Luiz and Kevin Trapp injured for PSG
Amongst other clubs, PSG have been dealt a considerable injury blow with duo Kevin Trapp and David Luiz ruled out for the next few weeks.
Luiz picked up a knee injury with Brazil, in their qualifying game against Chile and will be sidelined for the next few weeks. The former Chelsea defender jarred his knee after landing awkwardly.
Meanwhile, Trapp has been ruled out for six weeks with a torn hamstring against Ireland. Losing two players to injury isn’t going to have a big impact on the Ligue 1 tips that predict PSG as favourites once again this season to win the league, but with more friendlies coming up next month and the gruelling schedule of European and league football to follow, more injuries will have a definite impact on PSG’s domestic title hopes.
Sirigu looking to leave PSG
Trapp’s injury will come as a massive blow for PSG, especially now that Salvatore Sirigu is looking to leave the club due to lack of games.
The Italian keeper has been a backup to Trapp this season and is looking to leave the French outfit in search of regular football.
Chelsea eyeing up moves for Marquinhos and Ntep
Jose Mourinho is keen to add to his squad and the Chelsea manager has identified the PSG defender, Marquinhos as an ideal solution to his leaky back-line.
Le10Sport claim that Marquinhos is a priority target for Chelsea and the Blues will look to sign him as the long term replacement for John Terry, in the summer. However PSG are likely to reject all offers for a player they consider a long-term investment and leader for the club, Chelsea’s declining fortunes in the league this season are unlikely to turn the player’s head either.
Also, Chelsea are eyeing up a move for Rennais winger, Paul Georges-Ntep.
Mourinho is keen to add some pace and width to his attack and feels that the young French winger would be a good fit.
Ntep was linked with a move to Liverpool last summer.
Fabio Coentrao hits out at Spanish media
On loan full back Fabio Coentrao has hit back at the Spanish media for his ill-treatment, whilst at Real Madrid.
Coentrao claimed that he was made a scapegoat and the media blamed him for everything that went wrong.
“I think they were unfair to me. I feel as though they never gave me the benefit of the doubt.
“If I had a bad game, they attacked me immediately. If I played well, they gave it very little recognition.
“Even today, I still ask myself why I was the media’s ugly duckling”, he said.
Coentrao is on loan at Monaco this season and is hoping to secure a permanent exit from Real Madrid in the summer. Monaco are behind PSG in the title odds this season but are worth an outside punt – especially if you have a free £25 bet from BetVictor or another bookmaker to spend on a long-shot Ligue 1 title contender.
