Aymeric Laporte leads France’s new-look Under-21 squad

France Under-21 coach Pierre Mankowski has selected his 20-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Estonia and Netherlands.

Les Espoirs failed to qualify for the 2015 European Championships this summer, but the qualification process for the 2017 Championships in Poland starts in September.

Mankowski has moved on to the 1994 born group of players, so the likes of Alphonse Areola, Samuel Umtiti, Gianelli Imbula, Jordan Veretout, Paul-Georges Ntep, Yaya Sanogo and Florian Thauvin are no longer eligible.

Defenders: Baptise Aloe (Olympique de Marseille), Jordan Amavi (OGC Nice), Antoine Conte (Stade de Reims), Jean-Philippe Gbamin (RC Lens), Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao/SPA), Clement Lenglet (AS Nancy), Benjamin Mendy (Olympique de Marseille), Steven Moreira (Stade Rennais)

Midfielders: Lenny Nangis (SM Caen), Georges Kevin N’Koudou (FC Nantes), Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain), Morgan Sanson (Montpellier HSC), Corentin Tolisso (Olympique Lyonnais), Rémi Walter (AS Nancy)

Forwards: Yassine Benzia (Olympique Lyonnais), Sébastien Haller (FC Utrecht/HOL), Corentin Jean (Troyes), Anthony Martial (AS Monaco)

France are in Group 3 for the 2017 qualifiers and will face Ukraine, Scotland, Iceland, Macedonia, Northern Ireland for a place in the Championships.

30th March: France v Netherlands – 21:00 Stade Louis-Dugauguez, Sedan

5th September: Iceland v France

10th September: Scotland v France
