Let’s look at how the team did in Week 9…
The team (well most of them…) regained a little collective pride with a much better showing this week – at least on the Both Teams To Score front, Jeremy, Andrew and Rich all predicting correctly. Scorers – only Jeremy’s prediction that Gomis would score was correct. But, after last week’s big fat zero, baby steps…
Jeremy 2/2 (6/16)
Rich 1/2 (3/16)
Philippa 0/2 (2/16)
Andrew 1/2 (4/16)
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
After the tactic worked last week, Jeremy and Andrew have gone for the same match again, this time plumping for Angers vs Toulouse. Toulouse continued their fantastic start to the season last weekend as they came from behind to beat Monaco 3-1. Angers are a tough prospect, however: unbeaten at home since their opening day defeat to Nice and striker Famara Diedhiou is in good form, scoring three in his last three.
Best price: 11/10
Philippa has kept faith with Lyon, who let her down last week, as they host Guingamp. Back in the home comfort of the Stade des Lumieres Lyon should feel confident of getting back on the scoring track. They won’t have it easy against fifth-place Guingamp, who have only failed to score in two matches this season (albeit their last two away matches).
Best price: 5/6
Rich has gone for Dijon vs Lorient. 17th vs 19th doesn’t immediately suggest a goalfest, but Dijon have scored three in their last two home matches as so will be confident of hitting the net again. The problem for them is at the other end: in their last home match they also conceded three – the third time they’ve done so in their last half-dozen matches. Lorient – and especially in-form Benjamin Moukandjo – will hope to capitalise.
Best price: 4/5
Philippa has again kept the faith: last week she went for Monaco’s Fabinho; today she has gone for his team-mate Valere Germain. After a slow start to the season he now has two in two and, with the returning Falcao likely to draw defenders away from him, will fancy his chances against … Phil’s Montpellier. Presumably she won’t be too upset if she gets this one wrong!
Best price: 17/10
Rich has gone tribal, choosing Rennes’ Adama Diakhaby to score in his team’s big derby against Nantes. The 20-year-old, whose five appearances so far have all been as a substitute, showed against Guingamp in week 8 that he has a nose for the big occasion, coming off the bench to score an injury-time winner in another derby. Another goal this weekend would be even bigger for the promising starlet.
Best price: 7/2
After his cunning plan of going for the main striker facing Metz worked out well last week, Jeremy was going to go for Balotelli, but he is an uncertain starter, so he has instead gone for Edinson Cavani. It still feels like he needs five chances to score one goal (as he showed again vs Bale in midweek), but the fact is that with PSG he generally gets that many chances, hence his place as Ligue 1 top scorer. What better way to confirm his place as PSG’s main man by scoring against one of Zlatan’s favourite victims, big rivals Marseille?
Best price: 8/15
Andrew has gone for Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso. The midfielder has been in excellent form this season and seems to be having a private battle with U21 team-mate Adrien Rabiot to see who can push themselves into Deschamps’ full France squad (next squad announcement 3 November). Rabiot upped the ante with an excellent Champions League performance in midweek; the ball’s now back in Coco’s court…
Best price: 3/1
