Bourg-en-Bresse v AS Nancy: Ligue 2 Preview – Week 30

Bourg Nancy

Bourg’s sensational start to Ligue 2 has certainly now ended. Without a win in nine matches and only one win registered in 2016, they have slipped to 13th in the league and dreams of a promotion push have been firmly quashed.

The paper-thin squad has not been helped by injuries of late, with key men Pape Sane (on loan from Caen) and Lakdar Boussaha injured for the past few weeks and leaving coach Herve del Maggiore with makeshift options in their stead.

Bourg’s gung-ho approach has been subdued due to the indifferent form of their front line, with the last time they scored more than once in the league being the 5-1 win over Creteil after the turn of the year. Bourg should have enough to consider themselves safe for another adventure in Ligue 2 with nine matches left to secure roughly six points, though they will be wary of their current winless run going on any longer. The sequence of games following this match is relatively kind to Bourg, but with the underdog status firmly on their heads they will hope to secure yet another top Ligue 2 scalp here.

Nancy passed yet another test of their promotion credentials last week with a professional 2-0 win over the surprise third place side Red Star. They were given a helping hand by the early dismissal of Red Star centre half Remi Fournier and following Anthony Robic’s subsequent penalty miss they pushed on and punished the Parisian team, running out 2-0 winners and further consolidating their position in second.

Nancy have failed to win consecutive games in 2016, but it hasn’t stopped them from piling more pressure on leaders Dijon, so they will look ahead to the crunch match on the 2nd of April to attempt a charge for top spot.

Nancy’s talented and versatile squad have promotion entirely in their own hands now, having a six point cushion over Red Star, but the main focus now will be on keeping their best players fit.

Diallo Guideleye’s presence in midfield has been keenly felt as with Mickael Chretien Basser, who is set to miss the trip to Bourg here. Nancy certainly have the basis of a Ligue 1 squad and will see this match against Bourg as another opportunity to take a step towards a return to the top divison.

Prediction: Bourg 1-3 Nancy
