Time again to re-cap the action in Ligue 1 this week. From seven away wins last week there were none this week. Only 20 g0als over the three days of action but from cracking games none the less. Lille opened the Grand Stade Lille Metropole with a 1-1 draw with Nancy. New boys Bastia made it two wins from two and go joint top of Ligue and Bordeaux have now won eight league games in a row.
That’s start with our “Save of the Week” and their were a few contenders – Joris Delle made a couple against Valenciennes for Nice and Brest’s Alexis Thebaux made up for his howler last week against Nancy by making some excellent saves in the 1-0 win against Evian.
Facing big spending Paris Saint-Gerain the islanders of Ajaccio nearly beat the side from the capital but they had ‘keeper Guillermo Ochoa to thank for keeping them in the game in the first half with an excellent reflex save (1:05).
“Miss of the Week” has to go to Salomon Kalou. The Lille forward had the chance to open the scoring and become the first player to score in the new stadium but he skewed his chance wide of the post (5:30). Lille went on to draw the game and it could have been much different had the former Chelsea man put the chance away.
And now onto our “Goals of the Week” – At Number 3 Wissam Ben Yedder makes his first appearance of the season and he finished off a wonderful team move than involved Franck Tabanou and Etienne Capoue.
On to Number 2 and it’s FC Lorient new boy Alain Traore who with only seconds remaining beat Geoffrey Jourdren from 20 yards out and it would spark les Merlus to go on and pick up all three points.
Only one pick for Number #1 this week and it could possibly be one of the goals of the season. Step forward Brazilian Michel Bastos possibly scoring his last ever goal for Lyon.
Well we hope you enjoyed this week’s action and we’ll be back again next week.
