No Premier League move for Ligue 1 stars

December 8, 2011 9:00 am

Yes we know that Marseille and Lyon staged amazing come backs and Lille were knocked out but we will concentrate on the Champions League a little later. This is the time when we looks at the latest Ligue 1 stories doing the rounds.

After yesterday’s rumour of Yoann Gourcuff being sold to Arsenal today has seen Lyon chairman Jean Michel Aulas rule out a move while speaking to OLTV

“Yoann is a Lyon player and he will remain with Lyon after 31st December and until 30th June,”

“It is likely that he will remain with the club for a long time after that date.”

His agent also thought he would weigh in on the situation ruling out a move.

“There is no special situation,” said Jean-Pierre Bernes.

“He has suffered injuries and he has been forced to play in a number of different positions. This happens at every big club.

“Euro 2012? It is logical that he wants to play in the tournament and playing at Lyon won’t harm his chances.”

As we said yesterday, the move would be very surprising. I doubt we will see Gourcuff at Arsenal or anyone else in the Premier League.

Not sure why this is a news story but apparently Marseille defender Nicolas Nkoulou has been linked with a move to Premier League in the winter, but his representatives have come out to deny any rumours.

“Nicolas is fine at Marseille at the moment,” Maxime Nana told L’Equipe.

“He is keen to experience a lot of success at Marseille.

“As long as he has the trust of the coach and the club, there is no reason to look elsewhere.”

He only moved this summer from Monaco and after a slow start has started performing very well for Marseille, there is no way that anyone at OM would even consider a bid for the youngster. He will be at Marseille for at least another two years.

One of FFW’s favourite characters Louis Nicollin (Montpellier chairman) has come out today to say that no player sales will be sanctioned in Janury.

Younes Belhanda, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Olivier Giroud are attracting interest from the Premier League in England. Newcastle United being heavily linked with Ligue 1′s top scorer Giroud.

“It is very clear, no player we want to keep will leave during the winter transfer window,” said Nicollin.

This is great news for La Pallide, if they can hold on to all three players for the rest of the season there is no reason why they can’t finish in at least the top four and guarantee European qualification.

So with no one leaving the Stade de Mosson in January it would seem that Coach Rene Girard will be looking to strengthen his side in the transfer window.

Jamel Saihi, Souleymane Camara, Younes Belhanda and Abdelhamid El-Kaoutari will all be present at the African Cup of Nations in January and February so Girard is looking for replacements.

Three names fill the shopping list. Lorient’s Yann Jouffre although on a contract till 2013 apparently has a €300,000 release clause and would be a perfect fit in the Montpellier side.

The other more unlikely names are Bastia’s Wahbi Khazri and Clermont’s Romain Alessandrini. Both moves seem unlikely with both clubs reluctant to sell in January

There have been a couple of signings announced today. First up Dijon FCO have signed Ghanaian midfielder Bennard Kumordzi. The 26-year old has signed a three and a half year contract and will join the Burgundy club in January.

Exciting news for Les Girodins. It seems that Bordeaux have reached an agreement with Brazilian right-back Mariano. Radio station RMC revealed that the player voted “The best right-back in Brazil” will sign for €3m.

He will signed for four and a half years in January denying any last minute changes of heart.

More news later…
